Satire: Sanity

by Kevin L'dux

Created on: February 21, 2009

Each of us think our own agendas to be more substantially correct than that of others around us. We all have a different point of view concerning all aspects of our lives - unless you are brainwashed or belong to a cult. Those of us that agree with our friends or loved ones on certain moral or social issues may share like views but that is pushing reality.

How many of us consider another insane for not seeing things the way we do?

Are we not judging our own sanity in this fashion? I think yes and believe most people to be insane when compared to my view of the world, especially the current state of the USA. I am admittedly cynical and sarcastic as I tend to believe I see the world a bit more realistically than what the media tells the rest of you to believe. I have a few close friends that share many but not all of my thoughts. We are all individuals, correct? I consider many people I know to be sane in their reasoning while dismissing others as insane.

Why insane? I am of the belief that in our youth we tend to see the world through rose colored glasses. I say this because I was young once and saw the world that way. Hopefully, we all think that way before the ugliness of life puts it's impression upon us. I hoped for the good side of every person to exist and show itself on a regular basis and make life more pleasant for us all. Of course, I didn't have the responsibility of a 40 hour week job then along with the stress that goes with it to put a roof over my head and food to eat on a daily basis.
I graduated from high school and learned what that was all about.

I played bass in a rock band for two years after high school with thoughts of "making it". A few of my friends did as well and we continued to play after we got other jobs to pay rent and the other things in life the salary of a musician won't. Ask any full time musician about his salary. Unless he has caught a break or is extremely lucky it isn't the same as what a few years in college will gain you.
I wore those rose colored glasses until I was 30 because I was still looking for a way to be a musician. A lot of people thought I was insane then. I was living for my dream.

Now that I am older and am aware of the real world I am no longer as liberal thinking as I once was. Once I gained holdings I become more conservative in my beliefs. The realities of hippie communism/socialism are unrealistic to me as far as the American ideals of capitalism is concerned.
I should say I am more middle of the road as one needs to be both liberal and conservative to live life, especially when raising children.

It's too bad our federal government cannot function as one's household does. I would be out on my ass if I operated in like manner.
That said, I declare our elected officials to be insane.
If our economy is shot to hell as bad as the government claims how are people able to take week long vacations to the Bahamas, buy new TVs and attend sporting events such as the Super Bowl or the Daytona 500?
How many college kids will be in Florida or Cancun for spring break this year? I predict plenty and I can't wait to see.

How can the president justify flying around the country attempting to convince people of his insane financial plans when a televised version for the whole nation would do just fine?
Where is the sanity of the people that constitute this nation?
I think there is little left.
