Are women really looking for "Mr. Big"?

Sex and the City is the worst thing to happen to women in this generation! It is entirely possible that we will never again witness a mainstream television program that glorifies acting like a complete whore, justifies completely irrational thought processes and quite frankly encourages an "it's all about me" attitude. There are certainly many other programs and magazines that do exactly the same thing, but Sex and the City is the clear cut front runner for demonstrating a path to a life of complete misery.

The self centered, dysfunctional nature of the characters of this show set a dismal example for the women in our country that men don't matter, and that your feelings are more important than your integrity. This problem is not only detrimental to women, but is at the very root of the degradation of our society if not only personal relationships.

Now don't misunderstand me, I am not a proponent of a show built around Ward Cleaver, but I am not exactly crazy about a show built around Samantha's Beaver either. From week to week I watched my wife glue her face to this ridiculous fantasy show about 4 women who couldn't give a crap about anyone but themselves!

The central theme included one sappy pity party after the other because Carrie's boyfriend was sleeping with another woman, or Charlotte's boyfriend couldn't get it up, or Samantha was trying to decide whether she should sleep with a woman or a man. Even though I tried, I couldn't find any evidence that these characters actually cared about each other at all. Watching each others problems simply diminished their own guilt for their own poor choices. They reveled in their "best" friends misery! They certainly didn't give a crap about most of the men they were sleeping with.

The girls would put their arms around each other after a break-up or sad time, but the simple fact is; these women did what felt right at the moment. That's it! I must admit I was an occasional closet Sex and the City watcher, but I never once heard these women discuss the process of doing "the right thing". As square as Ward cleaver seems, I bet that guy never missed a bill payment, always had his kids to school on time, never missed the boys baseball games and then went home and rocked the bedroom too.

So the question remains, are women really looking for "Mr. Big?" The answer is simply, yes they are. The problem is that shows like Sex and City tell women that Mr. Big can't be a plumber, a retail employee, or simply a carpenter. This show
