Spring is in the air. It is a glorious season that is known by many as the time for new beginnings. Some people even think of it as the time to find or re-kindle love.
The real world isn't a Disney movie though, is it? Most women don't have the time for all that mushy crap! Let's get real.
When spring is underway, the more realistic way to think is practically. Time to see the change in weather for what it really is: the time to put away those sweaters and break out those cute gaucho pants and colorful cotton tops you have been missing for months!
Where to start though?
When it comes to organizing and updating your wardrobe for spring the best place to start is with a winter purge. Sort everything you have into three piles: donate, store, and transitional.
The "store" pile can be toted away to your attic until Jack Frost comes back around to nip at your nose next year. Transitional pieces are the items that you will continue to wear during the cooler days and nights that our new friend spring, has to offer. It is a good idea to keep out at least three of your favorite sweaters and two pair of winter pants for transitional pieces.
If you are short on cash, consider selling your better clothes at a consignment shop instead of donating them.
Now you have some space in your closet and drawers for your spring attire. Start by getting out the items you put away the year before. Then, just purge again! You will be surprised at how many things you feel differently about! Fashion trends change. Personal style change with them.
Now you can start pulling out your spring clothes and make a list of the items you need to buy for the season. Remember, it is not summer yet. Tempting as it may be, now is not the time to stock up on flip-flops, short-shorts and sun-dresses. There will be plenty of time for those must-haves later.
When shopping for spring attire, remember these four easy rules:
1. Classic pieces like kaki pants and v-neck tops are priceless and an important part of any wardrobe. Spring is all about layering. With the weather so unpredictable, layering allows you the ability to stay comfortable.
2. Think ahead. Purchase items that will help you transition into summer and can be layered comfortably.
3. Always remember that quality is better than quantity. One well made $200 trench-coat will give you much more use than five $40 bargain t-shirts!
4. Go ahead and treat yourself to a few trendy pieces but spend the bulk of your budget on items that can stand the test of time.
The most important thing to remember while organizing and updating your wardrobe for spring is to have fun. After all, this feeling comes but once a year!
