God the father and Jesus the son is often the simple definition of both and for good reason, it is comforting and correct to view God as our father (creator) and makes it easy to understand His love and joy for us as well as His disappointment when we are doing wrong.
Jesus as son on the other hand over simplifies, for He loves us more like the father but identifies with us like the most intimate friend you could have. Jesus' role is to have come into this world to bridge the disconnect of spiritual and physical, as well as self and God, offering himself as the only human to have not done wrong to another or God.
Jesus in truth had it difficult.....persecuted and different, however he also had it easier in that being a part of God had the most personal relationship one could have with God in this life. God sent Jesus to have a personal understanding of our experience and why free will was so difficult and the limitations of humanity. Who of us doesn't find a deeper love and understanding with someone, not to mention a greater capacity for forgiveness when we understand someone's whole story, or walks with them through a difficulty. God wanted us to know he understands how hard this life can be through Jesus. He also created us for companionship not as robots or even angels without free will....so while hard, most problems and difficulties are a result of the choices we make, our parents made or even those around us. Jesus came to cover the times we make poor choices with our free will.
God's role is that as He created all the beauty and was even surrounded by the songs and beauty of angels, but he realized none of them were going to have the relationship with Him or be close to His likeness without the freedom to choose not to love Him, or to choose not to follow the order He knows works better....so we are the only creation that operates not on instinct but on choice.
All will make bad choices, be selfish at times and some will choose to not love God....but if at any point they want to be reunited with God spiritually here and personally upon death of body - then Jesus' role as a direct part of God is to cover any and all of those bad choices and to serve as a reminder to God how limiting it is to be human. He is also to serve as a guide to us on how to live as God has always known things work best for prosperity, peace and love and also His glory in personal relationship with us.
Jesus the loyal friend and brother...but first the bridge from here to Heaven and the path to a personal relationship and understanding with the one who created all.
