How to build a cat condo

Have you ever been shopping for a cat tree or a cat condo for your furry friend? If you have, you quickly found that the prices are hugely inflated and can cost anywhere from sixty dollars for a small basic one, to upwards of three hundred dollars for a tall fancy one. These prices scare people off from buying one, thus depriving the cat and the owner the hours and days of enjoyment a cat tree or condo can provide. Not to mention of course the wear and tear a cat condo can save on sofas and chairs.

Fortunately, making one is much cheaper and you can make it as complicated or as simple as you like for pennies on the dollar compared to any you would find in the shops.

The only things you need for a simple cat condo is some;

Excess lumber or sturdy ply board

Carpet remnants

Utility knife

Glue gun and strong glue

Basic tools such as a hammer, wood glue, screws, nails, saw, etc.

Catnip
The most simple and basic cat combo is a simple square. Just make a simple box with your ply board or wood. Glue the sides together, let dry and then for added strength nail or screw the sides together remembering to leave one side open.

Take your Carpet remnants, cut to fit and glue it on the outside of your box. Use a staple gun around the edges for better adhesion. Sprinkle a little catnip on the outside and "voila!" Instant cat scratching post or box. For a little extra comfort, add carpeting to the inside of the box as well.

If you want to make something a little more complicated and a lot more fun you will need:

Excess lumber or sturdy ply board

A center pole as tall as you desire, sturdy (at least 4x4 inches) round or square.

Sisal Rope or any kind of thick rope. You will need a minimum of 4 feet, more for a nice height of rope for the cats to claw and hang from

Angle brackets

Basic tools such as a hammer, screws, nails, saw, etc.

Glue Gun and glue, strong glue

Catnip

Feathers, strings, toy mice, etc.
You will need to decide how big you want your cat tree to be. A center pole of six feet will need a fairly wide base to maintain stability. You should make a base of at least four feet. Obviously this will take up a lot of space and if you don't have it, you would be best off going for something smaller.

Carpet your base and then cut out the center so the center pole will fit into the cut out circle. Take a long bolt and screw it in from the bottom of the base. If the tree is going to be on a wooden floor, you should glue some carpeting on the base as well to prevent scratching. You can also add some
