Running Time: 95 minutes.

Rating: R (Nudity, Brutal Horror Violence)

Proof positive that any celluloid slasher film garbage could make money in the early 1980s if it had the words "Friday the 13th in big blood red letters on the poster outside the theatre. This loathsome third entry in the Friday the 13th series sees Jason Voorhees, Crystal Lake's resident monster, a disfigured child in the original, and a sasquatch in a flour bag mask in the first sequel has now graduated to the hockey goalie mask monster almost synonymous with the series. He has apparently grown into an even bigger sasquatch and the goalie mask stolen from one of his victims proves quite becoming.

Here again Jason is roaming around brutally murdering people. The backstory of the first two tells us that he is avenging his own death (or near death, or whatever) and that of his mother. He is also perhaps somewhat perturbed at the beating given to him at the hands of heroine Ginny Field in part 2, which ended on the same day the narrative here picks up.

Worse, he can't get to Ginny Field because the actress who played her didn't want to be in anymore of these movies. Perhaps worst of all the complexity of his character is shunted aside along with the depth of the backstory of the first two.

Instead the backstory is expanded upon to suggest Jason left Chris (Kimmell) yet another of his victims for dead in the woods behind her house after a completley separate (He's got a life y'know!) random attack years earlier. Chris has now returned to the house with her garish friends to get some closure.

It is still five years after the events depicted in the original (though this got released a little over two years after the first one and slightly more than a year after part 2). The garish camp counsellors of the first one and better looking horny camp counsellors of the first sequel are gone replaced by a smaller group of randy stoners and a preposterous mini biker gang (three members) they clash with. Jason seems more than willing to exterminate them simply for being there (or for their bad acting).

The cast here, arguably the very worst ensemble of all the Friday the Thirteenth
