With A Kiss

May God himself have mercy on this wicked soul of mine
I think I finally fell too hard, I told too many lies
And the winds were changing, blowing phrases back into my mouth
No matter how deeply I cut I could never clear you out
My bones ache from the whole ordeal; my body writhes in pain
Knowing that I once knew love by more than just a name
Like a dream, time flew by me; I had no way to know
That he would leave, walk away from me, left with scars to show
The depths of love's painful blade, the horrors of its sting
Left me here to wonder if I did a great or little thing
For the jury's out, the gag order on my emotions holds
Back from the light, words from that night, piled on my floor
I hear them calling, begging for me to come back again for more
The winds start changing. I start making promises, unheard
If he remembers anything of me, may it be just this
The promises I made and broke then sealed up with a kiss
