Quick energy boost foods

We all need food to live, although admittedly there are some of us who actually lives to eat. I would fall into the latter group. Sometimes I found myself guilty for rampaging the kitchen just a couple of hour after meal time. Then again, as a mother of two young girls with so many activities in a day, I just can't help myself feeling exhausted most of the time. If you think you've been there, then please continue reading.

Feeling fatigue is one of the most common complaints that people are having nowadays. Given so many activities that a person need to accomplish in one day, no wonder we are too often choose the wrong diet, we are lack of exercise and deprived from sleep. All of these will increase our stress level and cause exhaustion. Lucky for us, nature has a way to overcome this problem. There are foods that could boost our energy in a jiffy, and here are some of them:

1. Carbohydrates. That is the first thing that your body would burn to make into energy. So when you are feeling kinda sluggish, get your serving of carbo. But before you reach out to that yummy donuts or a slice of cheese cake, think again. Carbohydrates that come from sugar and refined flour would give you the energy rush, but it would quickly fade and leave you feeling the hungry pangs once more. And if this cycle continue, you would end up with extra pounds around your belly. So you must choose your source of carbo wisely. The best thing would be fruits, either fresh or dried because not only it has the sugar that provide energy, it also provides fiber and vitamins. Another plus is that the sugar from fruits is being processed slower by our body, and as a result we won't get hungry so quickly. This is also the case with unrefined flour. So the next time you want to have a sandwich, choose whole grain over white bread.

2. Caffeine. It's a natural drug that can stimulate the central nervous system, causing increased alertness. Caffeine gives most people a temporary energy boost and elevates mood. It is found in coffee, tea, most of carbonated drinks, and some pain medication. The heathiest way would be to consume it in its purest form without the addition of sugar or cream, which are laden with calories. Also, it is important to note that moderation is key. Too much caffeine can cause our body to lose calcium and aggravate certain heart problem.

3. Water. It's not food, but make sure you consume enough of it (around 8 glasses per day). When our body is deprived of water, it sometimes sends the wrong signal to our brain. We can easily mistaken thirst as hunger.

So guys and gals, the next time time you need that extra boost of energy, I hope you know what to do. Always choose your snack wisely. It would help if you could carry an apple in your bag.
