Ok. So you want to give your Picture that vintage feel huh? Very simple in photoshop. Open up the picture you would like to edit. It is suggested that you download some textures to give your picture a scratched feel. You can download some nice textures from swimchick.net in the Resources section. After you grab one of those. You can open the texture in photoshop and copy the texture.
Place the texture on your desired picture. Go to edit > Free Transform to help the texture to fit the page. And set the layer on Exclusion. If you want the picture w.o color. Go to image > adjustments, desaturate (Make sure the background is selected!). After this is done. Select the Paint Bucket tool (Or hitting the G key on your keyboard.) look for two squares. (usually one black and one white) select the top square and look for a dark blue shade (05103e).
Create a new layer.
This can be done by going to Layer> New>Layer and hitting ok. Click the picture (Be sure you're still on the paint bucket tool.) The whole picture should be Dark Blue. Make sure your LAYERS palette is visible. Set the layer to Exclusion. And set the opacity to about 75%. (Or whatever looks best on your picture). Your picture is guaranteed to have a vintage feel now. Suggested texture searches: vintage, paper bag, classic. There is sure to be a texture to find. Play with the tools. see what you can do. Hit control + B to open u color balance. Make your picture glow by duplicating your layer (The background) and go to Filter > Blur >Gaussian Blur and set it to 5.0. Set the duplicated layer to overlay and play with the opacity.
Use color Orbs as splashes of light in your pictures by Hitting the B key and pulling up your basic brushes. Make sure your brush is smooth around the edges. Create a new layer. Select a color and select a spot of the picture you want to burst. Set the layer to lighten or screen. (Whichever looks best for you.) Play around with layer masks. Layer masks are far better to use than the erase tool because when something is gone from a layer, you just might not be able to bring it back. Layer masks, however, you can bring back the removed section of the layer.
This can be pulled up by going to Layer>Layer Mask >Reveal All. One thing that you must know is that in Photoshop, there is multiple ways to do Everything. Things to accent your picture are brushes from Obsidian Dawn. Brushes to help give the picture an vintage feel. Other options: You can also create two new layers and set one to yellow, and to exclusion, and setting the second to pink and exclusion and remember to Play with the opacity!
