It was a warm afternoon, and we were taking our lunch. There was a small knock at the door. A woman from the village was requesting to speak with my host pastor. He took his leave, and returned shortly, stating I should finish my meal as we had been requested to come down to one of the homes in the village to pray for a small child with an eye condition.
As we walked down the lane, the smell of firewood burning filled the air, and people were moving quickly to finish their chores. The chickens were chasing each other; the dogs were eating scraps thrown down for them; and the goats seemed to have free reign. Children were having fun while they worked, some doing dishes in the tubs placed on the ground, while others were carrying hay and securing the donkey's so they could feed them.
When they saw me approaching, they came running with shouts of glee and giggling among themselves. "Hallo, how are you?" over and over again!. They had never seen a white person before, and they were filled with excitement and wonder! One little girl, very humble, came and took my hand in hers and began to walk with me as we made our way. She didn't say a word. With purpose in her heart she led me to our destination.
As we walked I soon learned that the mama of the child had also invited her neighbors. Many of the other's were now joining us as we made our way down the lane. It seemed to be a festive time, and I was excited to see what the Lord had prepared. I was amazed at the unity and the joy in the village. That was a miracle in itself! There's so much poverty and the way of a hard life was evident, but you would not it by the joy they expressed. They showed so much hospitality and they all desired for me to come to their homes for a cup of tea and to pray blessings.
When we arrived at the home made out of mud and cow dung, and thatched grass roof, we were met with warm greetings, hugs and smiles. Everybody's excited and greeting one another. I was then escorted into a living area of the home, when the mother came in with her child. I was asking questions about her daughter's condition and came to learn that the mother had the same eye problem as a child, which resulted in surgery at the age of ten. She did not want her child to go through the same suffering as she had so she sent for us to come.I asked if I could hold her daughter, which was met with much delight!
Other's were still coming in.and the room was quickly filling. Children remained outside peering in the windows, other's
