Challenges faced by Christians critical of modern role-models for the faith

We all know right from wrong. It is clearly listed in the Bible, for those of us who believe the Bible. The ten commandments, the beattitudes, and so on are places you may find this list of right from wrong. I understand it doesn't say you can't drink anywhere in the bible, I also have never said where it talks about those deadly four letter words being something that will condemn you to hell if the dart your mouth. That doesn't mean it isn't in there, just that I don't know where it is. However, it also never says it is ok to do those things either. My point by saying all this is, should we have a wishy washy faith or should we be extremist? Should we vow to never let alcohol touch our lips even though the technical sin is being a drunk? A good friend of mine termed this mentality as believing the skeptics. There are so many people out there that won't give their life to Christ because they won't be able to drink or smoke or cuss or have relations anymore. I think that sometimes we as christians just want them to say the prayer so we stretch the truth a little. "Oh its ok to drink in social settings, well if you swear and you aren't swearing ABOUT anyone its ok, if you REALLY love that person, you can have relations with them if you KNOW you are gonna get married what can it hurt?" I think our relationship with Christ isn't just about love and mercy, but also about fearfullness and obedience. I am not saying we should all go out and preach hell and brimstone, but lets not get to carried away with the grey areas either. We are supposed to do things that bring glory to God. If what we are doing is in anyway turning God's word into if's and but's then we need to stop. The whole idea of following Christ, is the "following" word. Christ never had to make an excuse for something He did because He was doing things that glorified the Father. I would like to challenge the reader to step out on faith and be barbaric. Love God with about being ashamed and don't conform to the world's rebellious trends.
