Having been and avid music fanatic since I was born and being raised in a home that was devoted to music, I have been exposed to an almost infinite amount of music. I have listened to tens of thousands of albums for thousands of bands from many eras in time and choosing my top ten albums seems almost impossible at first thought. The more I think about it the easier it has become to choose. All I have to do is consider what is important in music, society, culture and my personal life and evaluate which albums have made a difference in those ares to me.
Music has been an inspiration for me and for many creative and intelligent people through out history and for me it seems that intelligently orchestrated music has been more important to me than a catchy pop song that only has a short life span and then slowly fades into the black pits of the ever forgetting archives of useless time wasting crap. The more I think about what is important in my own life and what makes me happy it becomes quite easy to make my decisions and why they are my favorites.
#1. Aenima - Tool
There are many reasons why this is my favorite album and many of them have to do with what kind of person I am and how it has molded me and how I think. This is my favorite because it let me know that there are other people out there that think like me. It made me feel like I wasn't alone. This album delves into the center of agnostic intellectualism and pries into the core of expanding our minds to a broader spectrum of ideas. It explores the possibility of really finding ourselves and knowing who we are. Most people have no idea who they are.
#2. Lateralus - Tool
This album for me is one of the top ten for the same reasons as the first one, but this one has less of a personal reason for me and more of an intellectual reason. This album is formulated with mathematics and has a great rhythm. It is an evolution from beginning to end.
#3. 10,000 Tool
This album I love for all the reasons I love Tool, which I have stated above, but this has made me more emotional that others. This was a mix of Maynards personal life and angst against the government and stupidity (which go hand in hand) and although I love this album it wasn't as good as the above two.
#4. Undertow -Tool
And again I love this album for all the above said reasons and this is a great album, but it was more in Maynards hateful and less pragmatic days. It does not make it any less of an intelligent album, but it isn't as perfect as the above albums.
