A PS3 or a Wii? Well that depends on what you want from your games console. If you want it to play decent games, to be at the forefront of technology, to provide you with amazing graphics and an all round immersive gaming experience, go for the PS3. If you want gimmicky games, dated technology, last century's graphics and a gaming experience that usually involves flailing around like a chicken, go for the Wii.

The PS3 is by far the most advanced gaming console on the market. So advanced in fact, that many people complain that game developers tend not to use it to its full capacity yet. And I emphasise the "yet". If you have a PS3 now, it will continue to be a great console long into the future. Its technological powers are yet to be fully realised. As games become more and more power hungry, the PS3 will cope. The PS3, although competing in the same markets as the Wii and the Xbox 360, is really miles ahead of every other console in terms of technology.

Now consider the Wii. The Wii is the least advanced of the 3 major consoles on the market. Its dated technology means it cannot cope with today's ever advancing games industry. Instead, it is forced to rely on a gimmicky gaming style. The Wii cannot handle the level of gaming that the PS3 does, so it instead has to turn to games in which the actual gaming experience is less important.

The style of games that the Wii promotes is not one that will last. Sure, the Wii can be very fun at first, but how long could you control Indiana Jones with nun chucks before you start to wish you had a proper controller, and a fuller, richer gaming experience? The novelty value of interactive aerobics and simulated bowling will soon wear off, and gamers will be left wishing for something more substantial. And substantial gaming is not something that the Wii provides.

The PS3 on the other hand, has plenty of substantial games. The games are deep, have intricate storylines, and will keep you interested much longer than any interactive dance game ever could. The games can be properly controlled with a proper controller, and can be viewed in all their high definition glory on your massive plasma TV.

The Wii on the other hand, doesn't support high definition gaming. Instead, you are left with plain old standard definition gaming. This is fine, if you want to play it on a 15 inch portable TV from the eighties. If, however, you want to play it on your shiny new High definition telly, the graphics look like a bland reminder of last century. And what if you want to watch a movie? Nope, the Wii can't even play DVD's.

The mighty PS3 on the other hand not only plays DVD's, but is one of the few machines in existence that can play Blu-ray discs. These are the absolute pinnacle of High definition movies, and will have you in engrossed in its full HD beauty every single time you watch a film.

So, you can probably guess what my conclusion is going to be. Not only is the PS3 by far the better machine, it will continue to be a technological powerhouse long into the future. The Wii's novelty value will soon wear off leaving gamers wishing for a more immersive gaming experience, and that's exactly what the PS3 provides.
