"I just didn't think it would happen so fast," my mother said to me on her last day on earth. She was in her 80's, and had a good life ... she knew she was going.
"You just go home now, and don't worry about me," she added ... it was the last time I spoke with her. She knew the score, but as always, wanted her children not to worry ... we should go home and live out our lives to the best.
Life went by too fast ... she couldn't believe how soon we come to the end. Even at the ripe age of 80. Life had passed so quickly! Younger persons would hardly believe that after 80+ years of life ... you would feel it had sped by!
- A ten-year-old ... looking at my mother ... sees someone who has lived TEN LIFETIMES! Think about it!
- A forty-five year old ... sees her as having lived TWO LIFETIMES! Weird, eh!
- An eighty-year-old ... looks back ten years ... as if it were yesterday ... it's only a small fraction of her lifetime, and yet to the child ... it is a lifetime.
And so it's no wonder that as the years go by, they seem to pass quicker than you think. The way we perceive our time here on earth is not uniform.
Having said all that ... whatever age you are ... use your time wisely. It is a non-renewable resource! If you should ever find yourself doing something just to 'pass the time' ... scream! Someone is not getting value for their 'lifetime'. We cheat ourselves out of our most valuable resource by not living the most we can each and every day. Every hour counts.
What did you do today? Did it count for something? Are you proud of any one minute of the day?
The best way to slow the passing of life ... is to make each minute count for something! If at the end of the day you can count something good ... you're on the right track. Start with one minute. A lot of people would have trouble finding one in their average day! What a waste ... if you can't. If you start right now ... take a minute ... think about something great or beautiful, and be thankful you're alive ... right now ... it may be the one you can start with. Don't be satisfied with one minute a day!
- Keep a daily log ... and write down the memorable minute(s) for that day. If you find yourself skipping days with nothing to add ... well ... do something about it ... start over ... take a minute to enjoy reflect! That'll do it.
Our time is like a free shopping spree at Walmart.
- You're given a free shopping spree ... to get in there and grab onto stuff until you hear a bell ... then it's over. Would you waste time doddeling along the isles? Doubt it. I'd be racing through, having the time of my life! I'd pass up the junk ... trying to fill the cart with the BEST of the best!
- You're given a life ... get in there and do the same! Fill up your cart with the BEST of the best ... until you hear THE BELL ring!
