Mesh shirts and tank tops seem to reemerge every now and then in the fashion world. For the most part, the people who choose to wear these items should have reconsidered their choice of clothing. Very few people can pull off wearing mesh shirts and tank tops and there are a number of reasons why mesh shirts and tank tops were never really cool.
Mesh shirts, in all honesty, don't do justice to any man who wears them. You always seem to picture a guy wearing a mesh shirt with a hairy chest and the hairs sticking out of the holes. Not exactly a turn on. Even a man that is buff can't seem to get away with the mesh shirt look. It just has a trailer trash look to it. Growing up in a small town in Louisiana, I always think of guys working under the hood of an old beaten up car with the mesh shirt and a mullet.
Women look no better in mesh shirts. Growing up in the 80's, mesh shirts were in style for a number of years. The only time mesh shirts look okay on a woman is when she wears a full shirt underneath. For the most part, mesh tops don't look cool on women because they look cheap. Many women wear bra tops under their mesh shirts, and coupled with a short skirt, they look like prostitutes most of the time. So, this fashion should, for the most part, be avoided.
Like mesh shirts, tank tops are not really cool, either. Tank tops on men, often called wife beaters, don't create images of style. The only time a man should wear a tank top is when he's doing yard work or things around the house. Otherwise, they shouldn't wear them because tank tops make them look slovenly and like they don't care how they present themselves. I don't think that the person who originally made tank tops meant for them to be worn as an everyday shirt. They are under garments and not even casual wear.
The only time women should wear tank tops are when they are working out or doing house work and as a shirt underneath a suit jacket. Tank tops are not cool because they make most women look cheap, especially when they were short shorts or skirts. It seems like the tank tops come out when the weather gets hot. It draws unnecessary attention to the woman and distracts some people. Besides, it exposes the skin to ultraviolet rays.
Mesh shirts and tank tops were never really cool because they don't make the wearer look stylish, even for casual wear. It makes the person look tacky and as if they don't care about their overall appearance. So, unless the mesh shirt and tank top is added to another top, they should be thrown out.
