Guide to the Everglades and Biscayne National Parks

Everglades National Park
This has been classified as the third largest park in the United States, outside Alaska. Experiencing what the Park has to offer may take more than a day.
Everglades National Park is located in the southern tip of Florida, just west of the city of Miami. The official address is 40001 State Road, 9336 Homestead, and FL 33034-6733.
The park may be explored by personal vehicle, commercial tour bus, bicycle, motor boat, or canoe. There are a number of things to do while enjoying Everglades National Park. These activities include: birding, camping, fishing, hiking, photography, snorkeling, swimming and viewing wildlife.


Walking, canoe trails, boat tours and tram tours are excellent for viewing wildlife. Camping, offers the opportunity to enjoy what the park has to offer firsthand. Ranger-led activities, offered throughout the park, may help you to enjoy your visit even more by gaining useful information.
The main entrance to the Park is located near Homestead and Florida City.
It is open 24 Hours. There are five visitor centers located in the park. Each visitor center has its own attractions, and features a different set of plant and animal life. The area is also accessible by wheelchair. The centers are:

Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center: This area is located at the Main Park entrance. It is west of Homestead and Florida City. The area contains no hiking trails. It however has educational displays, films, and brochures. It also has a bookstore where insect repellants may be purchased. This area is opened daily, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Royal Palm Visitor Center: This area is located four miles west of the main entrance. It has a hiking trail, led by a ranger where interesting animals may be seen. The trail last about 20 minute. In this center you may purchase snacks, soft drinks, books, films, postcard and insect repellant. This area is open daily, from 8:00am to 4:15pm. Their phone number is the same as above.

Flamingo Visitor Center: This area is located 38 miles from the main entrance at the southern end of the Park. It includes several hiking and canoe trails, a lodge, campground, gift shop and restaurant. Boat and canoe rentals are also available. It contains the Florida Bay Museum with many interesting exhibits. The center is open daily, in the months of November to May, from 7:30am to 5:00am. Their phone number is 941-695-2945.

Shark Valley Visitor Center: This area is located on the northern boundary of the Park. It
