Poetry: Humorous poems for children

by Arthur Croker

THE ELEPHANT

The elephant came to afternoon tea

It was the biggest elephant you ever would see

It must have weighed six ton or more

We had a job to squeeze it through the

Kitchen door

Mr Elephant we said what would you like to eat

A bunch of bananas would be a very nice treat

And a bucket of milk I'd like to drink

or a gallon of water out of the sink

After tea hiding seek we thought we could play

But where would an elephant hide away

It was too big to hide behind a tree

And it couldn't crawl under the settee

While we were thinking of something else to do

The elephant our plum tree decided to chew

Dad came out in a dreadful rage

And wanted to put him in a cage

Please don't hurt him dad we said

Maybe we could take him up to bed

But we knew it was getting very late

So we said goodbye and let him out the garden

gate
