Digital camera reviews: Canon PowerShot SD1000

Almost every family has a designated picture taker. The one person who is frequently missing in family photos, and is basically obsolete in the family photo album. Well, in my family that would be me.

Where ever my family and I may be you can catch me snapping photos of them. I have purchased numerous digital cameras over the years and was given the Cannon PowerShot SD1000 as a birthday present two years ago.

The SD100 is great because of its sleek design, it is small enough to fit in my purse or my husbands pocket without taking up a substantial amount of room. It is also very light weight at 4.41 oz.

The monitor is 2.5 inches which makes it plenty big for taking pictures as well as playing back those that I have just taken. It also features 15 levels of adjustment for brightness making the monitor easy to view in the sun which has been a problem with other cameras I have owned.

With 7.1 mega-pixels, 4 times digital zoom, and 3 times optical zoom I can easily take pictures without being so close that I am almost in them. The shooting modes are a great feature as well. I frequently use the special scenes which include indoor, beach, kids & pets plus many more and have found that my prints always come out beautifully clear.

I often find myself take pictures of my daughter, playing the various sporting activities that she participates in. Previously I would become annoyed when I could not take continuous pictures as quickly as I needed to. I always ended up missing the goal that my child made because the camera wasn't ready yet. However this camera is so quick at 1.7 frames per second I can easily take continuous shots and I always end up with the picture I am hoping to get.

One of my favorite things about this camera is the fact that it has a rechargeable lithium ion battery. No more using regular batteries, which I have found to be very costly. This battery has far exceeded my expectations. Never having previously owned a camera that used a rechargeable battery, and having been told that they are not always the greatest. I wondered how long the battery would last. This battery has a relatively long life. I have used it shooting almost nonstop for more than 3 hours and there was still plenty of battery life left.

The two best qualities about the SD1000 are it's affordability and ease of use. My five year old can operate this camera easily and ends up taking great pictures.
