What is friendship?

by Heather

What is friendship? in my opinion, friendship is about trust. Trusting someone is the biggest part of any friendship. With out trust, you can't grow to know each other. Knowing each other is all about trust. Being able to talk to someone that you are becoming friends with or have been friends with is being able to talk about anything. By anything, I mean anything. Knowing that the other person won't judge you or hold you accountable for each and every word that comes out of you mouth. A friend is deeper than just knowing someone or being their acquaintance. Being able to show your confidence and your true self to you friend is about seeing them as your equal. Never as someone that is beneath you or to only hang out with them because you are trying to gain more than your willing to give.

Friendship is an important part of growing and knowing who you are. Most people that you hang out with are a true reflection of who you are. People tend to become like the people that they hang out with. But, never allowing them selves to loose who they really are on the inside and out. A friendship should never ask to much of each other or try to make you change for their own personal satisfaction. A true friend is someone that will except you for who you are no matter what. No matter the cost and no matter the differences.

I feel that true friendship is by far, the hardest to find. A friend should stick by your side and never make you feel guilty or believe that you are not good enough for them. They should make you feel as though you are important in their lives and never push you away. Once you have found a true friend, I feel that your friendship can last a life time. A life time of good times to look forward to. Even though, in any friendship we can all get into our spats, it is only a true friendship that can look past differences and move on. Differences that at one point, we will all face and soon realize if our bond as friends will over come anything.

Trusting your friends is more than just hearing the words that come out of their mouths. A true friend would never stab you in the back or take something that isn't theirs to have. Friends won't cross the line to make you feel sad, angry, disappointed, or rejected. They should be your friend because they care about you and know that you care about them. Friends are hard to find and when you find that true bond of friendship, you will never want to let go of each other. You will grow together and become something even more special than you ever thought could be possible.
