Why do people tell lies?

by Heather

Why do people tell lies? In my opinion, people tell lies because they don't want to face the fears of rejection. Rejection plays a huge role in all our lives. People do not like to be turned away or to be told that they are not good enough. Everyone wants to fit in with their peers and at times, lies seem to be the answer to help them fit in or to escape conflict. Of course, the lies get out of hand and stretches further and further, until they get caught. Our choice to lie is non other than a true reality that we have to face about our selves. It shows a true unhappiness we have about our selves and why we feel that we must lie. A lie is based off the truth, but is turned around to make it believable to the person or people they are talking to. People feel that when they lie, it is going to help them become a better person in the other person's eyes. Not only better, but it seems to make them more confident about their relationship with the other person. People are gullible to a point and believe the lies that come out of your mouth. They realize the lies after some time and soon enough, they don't believe you about anything. Lies can really destroy a relationship with anyone you know or may have met in your life. It's a terrible feeling to know people can't trust you.

Trust is more important than a lie. Truth gives us the ability for other's to trust us and to completely know us as we are. People focus way to much on how to fit in with each other. They don't seem to pay attention to who they really are. Almost as if they are putting up a front or wearing a mask when they are speaking to someone. A lie can really turn into something quite ugly and if they get out of control, they can really hurt you in the end. Lies are meant to cover up something that you don't wish for someone else to know about you or about something you have done. A lie can be about anything, but no matter what a lie is, it's never a good thing. Even the little white lies we have all told, seem to come back and bite us in the butt.

My father always taught me that a lie should never be an option. It is always better to tell the truth no matter what. A lie can get out of control and become a greater deal than it should have been, if you only told the truth. Truth is important and it shows our true face. People would much rather see who you are both on the inside and out and the true you. They don't want to see you as a liar or feel that they can't trust you. No matter what, you should always tell the truth, no matter how big the situation is in your life. Honesty is the best policy in all our lives. They offer less consequences in our lives. Our lives are based off of choices we make and the better the choices, the better your life will be.
