to an asylum at worst. Religious texts are common throughout the world, all of which are written by human beings. The belief that the human being was working under divine guidance is pure belief, and not one which I could ever share. The belief that God speaks to certain human beings or creates certain situations is to deny humanity and existence free will, and the moment you do this then the whole of human existence becomes meaningless, predetermined farce. What God would create a universe where everything is predetermined? Especially one as generally barren as this universe. The vast majority of space is empty, we are one small planet teaming with life in a black void. Without free will, the black void may as well be our home as we would behave in exactly the same way that everything behaves - we would abide fully the rules of the universe and would be nothing more than clockwork figures.
Science has recently proved that human are 'hard-wired' to believe in God. Our brains are naturally setup to create things which aren't there, and this helps us both to understand the universe and form societies with close bonds. Through this natural setup, we have created religions and belief structures. Some would try and argue that this natural setup to believe is evidence of God's design - that we are designed to believe in God. This is a strange claim indeed, the evidence would point to the exact opposite conclussion - that we only believe in God because our brains force us to. Whether or not this is the case is a matter of belief, not science.
Basically, there is no evidence for the existance of God. To claim so is to deny the right to believe and this is wrong. If you truly believe in something then you need no proof, and forcing other people to believe by gathering evidence to back up the claim is also wrong. People should be entitled to believe in God if they wish, there MUST only be choice.
