Are printed cookbooks a thing of the past? Fortunately, printed cookbooks are not a thing of the past quite yet. People will still want these printed cookbooks for many reasons. Some people, believe or not, still do not have the Internet and therefore do not have access to online recipe sites. My grandmother, for example, is one of those people. She has many cookbooks that she has collected over the years. They are very important to her and she treasures them. She would never even consider giving them up.

Also, some people like to have printed cookbooks because they do not want to (or cannot) bring their computer into the kitchen when they cook. Ink is very expensive and they may not want to waste the ink in order to print the recipe onto paper. I have brought my laptop into the kitchen in order to make a recipe. It was a mistake, I ended up with flour and sugar in my keyboard. Some of us happen to be very messy chefs! I did try to print out the recipes and save them for future reference. However, I just ended up with a big stack of papers and it was very hard to organize them.

I have about fifty printed cookbooks. They come from all over the world. Some of the recipes are rare and would be hard to find on the Internet. I really like having my cookbooks. I have some from Hungary and Greece. Some of them are very old. It makes me feel like a first class chef when I open up one of my cookbooks. I somehow enjoy the cooking process more. I do also use my computer for recipes from time to time. Like I said, though, it gets kind of messy. I cannot argue that it is more convenient but I do not think it will take the place of a printed cookbook.

A few of my cookbooks are even signed by the chefs who authored them. This could never be done with an online recipe site. I think if you are a true "foodie" then you will probably keep a few of your trusty cookbooks around no matter what. I mean what would one do if the Internet happened to go down on the day a special dinner was going to be prepared. This would be a disaster of the worst kind.
All joking aside, I think printed cookbooks are a wonderful thing. I love all books that are in print. If you are a bookworm then you would have a time giving up your printed books. I think it is the same thing for printed cookbooks. I cannot imagine a world without printed copies of my favorite books. This day may come some time in the future but I do not think it is here yet!
