Abstinence. It's a very controversial issue, for teens, parents, educators, politicians...everybody, really. But you, for yourself, want to follow a path of abstinence. I myself am going this route with my sexual life. I'll admit my approach to it is radical, but hey, we've got to have all bases covered, right? Below are a few tips for how to remain pure till marriage. I've also explained exactly why this is a tip, and what you can do to act upon the tips. Enjoy.
First, I'd like to define what I mean by 'too far'. What is 'too far'? My personal definition is a simple, passionate kiss. Why? I could write an entire article on just this subject, but let me give you the short and sweet: if you start out kissing, you're going to end up doing more. It may not be right then, but you will eventually. With that out of the way, let's blaze on.
1. Don't ever put yourself into a situation to go farther than you ought. It is an undeniable truth that when a man and a woman get together, they're alone, the lights are dark, that things can go farther than you want them to. It's nature, instinct, the normal order of things. But what if you're unmarried? Or end up with a child? To avoid these questions, don't ever, ever put yourself into a situation where you know you might go too far. Don't go on solo dates- take another couple with you, or better yet, don't go anywhere without a group. This will cut down on your 'alone time', making it easier for you to stay pure.
2. Don't go anywhere that might invite temptation. If you do go somewhere alone, try to avoid places that you'll be able to get a room all to yourself. I know places like Johnny Carino's offer seperate rooms for couples. Avoid those rooms like they have the plague. It's way to easy to get intimate in them, then leave and stop the car down the room. So if you want to go there, don't ask for even an isolated booth.
3. Don't sit in the car with your date. This may seem obvious, but it is very important. When you stop in front of your house, don't sit in the car discussing life. Say goodnight promptly, and leave the car. This goes back to the 'we don't want to go too far'. Everyone has heard of the infamous 'back seat'. Try to avoid the 'back seat scenario'.
4. Try to avoid too passionate kisses. I've heard many of my friends say that they've 'just kissed', and 'we didn't do anything'. 'Making out' is basically sex. You just want to think it's not. Sorry, but there it is. If you start out kissing, you're going to end up doing more before you know it. 'Don't go too far' is a good thing to tape onto the dashboard of the car you regularly use. If you like, you could even make it into a sticker and wear it whenever you go on a date.
5. The most simple solution of all- just avoid dating. I know this sounds waayy radical, but it's also the most simple way to deal with any problems that might come up. I myself don't date. Yes, I've been call crazy. Yes, I have turned down dates. Yes, it can get a bit awkward. Do I regret it? No. I've seen enough heartache and sorrow over the subject of dating and the opposite sex to last me a lifetime.
I hope this helps. I wish you all good luck with your journey on abstinence. Even if you've messed up before, and you're starting over, it isn't too late. You always have time to make a change for the better.
