The sun is busy throwing
A cherry-stained and glowing,
Farewell party as he plans to go away.
The extravagant buffoon
Throws one every afternoon,
Even though he just returns on the next day.
This pageantry's neglected
By a boy who sits dejected
With a ragged little puppy on his knee.
His tears collect discreetly,
Then flow softly and neatly
In a stream that no-one else will ever see.
This moment marks the end;
The passing of a friend
Into a world the boy has yet to see.
This means he doesn't know
That the place his friend will go
Is somewhere he can finally be free.

In Loving Memory for Buddy (A wonderful Dalmatian)
It is in your memory where I live now, as I run through greener pastures,
But
A dozen birds sang soulful songs.
Feathered tears fell to the floors
of their comfy cages.
The snakes slithered uneasily.

The Price of Loving a Dog

Today you had some place to be
Away
There is an emptiness here
now that you’re gone.
For thirteen years you
were my best friend,
my constant companion
