Everyone knows the classic tale of Alice and Wonderland. Forget all the nonsense about grinning cats, innocent children, and rushing rabbits. This tale is much darker.
Wonderland, only beginning to recover from civil war, celebrates Princess Alyss Heart's 7th birthday. Her evil aunt, Redd, crashes the party with feline assassins and playing card soldiers. The rest of the book follows the decay of the queendom, Alyss's journey towards adulthood and her destiny in a strange foreign land (England as we know it), and the final battle in Wonderland of good against evil (white versus black imagination).
If you like fantasy adventures, this one is worth a read. I warn you, though, it will leave you wanting more.
This book is written for the 9+ age group, and should appeal well to boys although the main character is a girl. This is Frank Beddor's first children's book, but you may be familiar with his work in film. He produced Wicked and There's Something About Mary, wrote the concept story for Whiteout, and was the skiing stuntman for John Cusack in Better Off Dead.
