The warm, sandy summertime beaches of Myrtle Beach are great places for children to explore, find shells and play. But when it's time for a change of pace there are many other activities to enjoy.
Myrtle Waves Water Park (3000 Mr. Joe White Ave, 843-913-9260) has rides, slides and pools for younger children and others they can enjoy with an adult. There are food concessions and shaded pavilions; outside food and drink are not allowed on site but there is a picnic area outside the main entrance. Children two and under are free, and there are after 3:00 pm afternoon specials.

Wild Water and Wheels Park (910 Highway 17 South,Surfside Beach, 843-238-3787) has lots to enjoy. Wally's Kiddy Lagoon has slides, a waterfall and a cave' to explore, and a kiddie pool by the adult lounge pool allows the whole family to relax and play close together. There are go-karts and bumper boats for children 3 and older and mini-golf on site. Children two and under are free, the reduced afternoon rate applies after 2:00 pm, and those 48" and under pay the children's price.

Family Kingdom (300 South Ocean Blvd., Amusement Park: 843-626-3447, Water Park: 843-916-0400) has both an oceanfront water park and an old-fashioned amusement park with much to appeal to young children. The water park has splash pools and kiddies slides for the younger ones, and the amusement park has rides designed for younger riders as well as others for older ones. The amusement park has no entry fee - payment is per ride, or you can purchase a ride-all-day wristband.

Pavilion Nostalgia Park (Broadway at the Beach,1325 Celebrity Circle, 843-913-9400) has traditional children's rides, family rides like the colorful Carousel with its hand-painted animals, and a two-ton pipe organ with lifelike dancing figures. And it's conveniently close to the shops, walkways and other attractions of Broadway at the Beach.

Carousel Park (Broadway at the Beach, 1309 Celebrity Cir, 843-913-9308) focuses on kiddie rides including a classic carousel, a balloon ferris wheel, Red Baron airplanes, a Balloon Wheel ride and the Broadway Train.
