Product reviews: Amazon's Kindle 2.0 digital reader

On February 24, Amazon will release the new and improved Amazon Kindle 2 reader. I've long been eyeing the Kindle as my next big purchase but haven't been able to justify the expense. Well not anymore! The second generation device has pushed me over the edge and it's on my must have list for when my tax return finally arrives.

What is It?
It's an e-book reader with a display in 16 shades of gray that reads like real paper, even in bright sunlight, easier on the eyes than a PC monitor.

So why have I decided it's something I just have to have? I can't imagine a business traveler, commuter or green-conscious consumer who wouldn't benefit from having one. I believe it will help me (and you)

Save Money
New York Times Bestsellers are always $9.99 on the Kindle, compared with a hardcover version of The Associate, sale priced at $15.37. An online subscription of USA Today is $13.95 per month sent to your email, but a subscription to USA Today via Kindle is just $11.99 monthly.

Save Space
Hold your entire library in the palm of your handliterally. You can hold up to 1,500 titles on one compact gadget and take it with you wherever you go. The second generation Kindle is comparable to most magazines at a 1/3" thickness and lighter than the average paperback at just 10.2 ounces and you can slip it right into your handbag or briefcase.

Save My Sanity
How many times have you been stuck at: the DMV, your hair salon, the airport, on your commute that you just wanted to escape?! Once I get my Kindle I promise I won't leave home without it. Anywhere , anytime-you'll never endure another boring second with your Kindle. You can shop wirelessly without cords or an internet connection, choose from over 230,000 titles and have them delivered to your fingertips in less than 60 seconds. Can I get a halleluiah for technology? Kindle=instant patience.

But I Don't Read!
The Kindle's text to speech function allows you to listen to any book, blog, magazine or newspaper in audio format. Like to read but need to keep your eyes on the road, dinner, laundry? You can switch back and forth between the written and audio versions.

End the ClutterSave a Forest!
Everyone's trying to do their part to be green and what better way than to cut down your paper consumption. You can email Word and PDF files to your Kindle. Get your newspapers delivered to your Kindle before they hit newsstands and finally rid yourself of those nasty black fingertips! You can get some magazines and blogs too.

What Customers Are Saying
In a video on the Amazon website, customers had this to say about the new Kindle 2:
It lets me read more, faster and a wider variety.
It's easier to read than regular, old books and easier on the eyes than reading on a computer.
I'm usually reading 3-4 books or magazines but I can keep it all in one place.
I read the local newspaper and they stopped delivering where I live, and I can get it on the Kindle, on a daily or a weekly basis, whether I'm at home or not.
The location and placement of buttons is really efficient.
The battery life is great. I can go for several days of reading without charging.
You can actually have it read to you if you want.
I'm a bibliophile and I love my Kindle. It's one of those certain things in life that you just won't give up.
