If you go to church and if you listen to religious programs you will notice that around holiday times the Christian community mirrors the same things that the world embraces like Valentine's Day, Easter and Christmas.
There are two new testament passages speaking directly to those who want to follow Christ. one of them says "see to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of the world rather than on Christ" Colossians 2:8 and the other is Revelation 18:4, "Come out of her my people so that you will not share in her sins".
The first passage calls on Christians to radically divorce themselves from worldly traditions without biblical foundations. All these holidays and the way they are celebrated are pagan in origin and carnal in their intent and execution. Search the Bible from cover to cover and you will not find scriptures supporting these festivities. So why does collective Christendom promote them. maybe they need the worlds money more than they need Christ. The second one warns Christians about assimilating into the general sinful living patterns that the world deems to be normal but that Christ abhorred and God condemns.
Religious leaders involving themselves in political matters is not what Christ championed. He on the contrary lambasted the politicians of his day for their callousness towards the poor and their hypocritical behaviour. Christ was not interested in being popular and to have a photo opportunity with secular leaders. Christ spoke the truth and they hated him for it and he indeed died for the truth. Are Christians today willing to die for the truth? Not many I suppose.
Christians today have substituted christs teaching for a kind of acceptance gospel which does not offend society. So they celebrate the worlds holidays, christians singers are trying to be celebrities and stars and pastors want to be at the head table with politicians. They are trumpeting feel good gospel and prosperity gospel and the like. The only gospel that mattered to Christ was the gospel of repentance which is zero tolerance to sin. Yes He loves homosexuals, adulterers ,fornicators thieves etc but tells them in order to be saved they must turn from their disgusting behaviour.
Christs teachings were very radical as he said love your enemies not bomb them. Also to settle your differences and not take each other into worldly courts. He also said be on guard for all kinds of greed because ,"man life is not what he possesses" .He said be servants of each other and not follow those in the world who wants to be catered to and seeking importance as if it is a badge of honour.
The true followers of Christ will listen when he tells them not to pray about material things because, "your Father in heaven already knows that you need these things" but, "seek the kingdom first then all these things will be added".
