Poetry: Friendship

by Diane Mackenzie

Created on: February 16, 2009

Measuring friendship defies all the means

We normally use for measuring things

Rulers and yardsticks, minutes, miles and years

Cannot do justice to friends we hold dear

Willingness always to lend us an ear

Light to guide us through darkness and fear

Long nights of laughter that last until dawn

Courageous enough to help us along

Forgiving and true wherever we're wrong

Singing along to a favorite song

Friendship is measured in hugs and in tears

Postcards and messages, giggles and cheers,

These are real ways friendship is measured

These are true ways that friendship is treasured.
