How to gain weight safely

3 or 4 small servings per day since you will also be getting fats with your meat and dairy products as well as small amounts of fats in certain fruits and vegetables.

Even if you don't have trouble eating solid foods, you might find it easier to get in extra calories and nutrients in liquid form. I recommend getting a good quality juicer that is easy to use. Your body will also burn less calories and use less energy processing juices than it will digesting whole foods. Remember, the object of gaining weight is to take in more calories than your body can burn. Just to gain a single pound in a week or two, you will need to take in at least an extra 500 to 1000 calories each day.

A few extra tips is to add plain yogurt, sour cream, or whole milk to mashed potatoes for extra calories and protein.

If you like Jello, then try mixing 2 four-serving packages of your favorite Jello gelatin with a cup of boiling water in a medium mixing bowl. Next, you will add two 8-ounce containers of creamy yogurt. Stir it with a whisk until it is all mixed well. Next, add in a 14-18 ounce can of your favorite fruit with the liquid. Stir it well and put it in the refrigerator until it sets. My favorite is to use 1 package of orange gelatin with 1 package of lemon gelatin, vanilla yogurt, and a can of mandarin oranges. On days when I can't get my father to eat anything else, he will usually eat the creamy orange Jello mix. It has a rich, tangy taste and it goes down easy.

For a rich, cold smoothie straight from the blender, try freezing orange juice in ice cube trays. Add a few frozen orange juice cubes with a few frozen strawberries and a banana in your blender. Pour in a bottle of cold Ensure (chocolate or vanilla works best) and blend until smooth. It's better than ice cream!

Make a quick and easy vegetable beef soup by browning a pound of lean ground beef in the bottom of a medium to large sauce pan. Pour off any excess grease. Pour in a couple of 12 ounce cans of V8 juice and about 3 cups of diced vegetables such as lima beans, onions, carrots, celery, corn, and peas. Just use the veggies that you like, it won't matter. Let it come to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for about 20 minutes. Add in spices if you like and enjoy. It provides lots of good nutrients and about 2 servings of veggies along with some protein in every 8 ounce bowl. It also tastes really good and is easy to eat. If you have trouble swallowing or digesting whole foods, then you should put the soup through a blender once it is cooked.
