This article is dedicated to my little cousin, Carly, who tragically lost her life from someone using their cell phone while driving. May she rest in peace.

Using a cell phone while driving any form of motor vehicle should be considered against the law. What makes something that kills innocent people everyday acceptable to do? If that question doesn't answer this title's, then nothing else will. Everyday faultless people like children lose their lives over this preventable cause of carelessness. We must realize that any distraction-causing execution done while driving, especially talking on a phone, should be against the law regardless of any circumstance.

We as people take advantage of many things in our lives. This being evident by the fact that almost everyone you know has a cell phone or mobile communication device that they use for their everyday activities. Chances are that you have one as well. Although taking advantage of this technology is one to help us, this does not make it all right to go about utilizing it heartlessly. We must come to terms on understanding that if we're allowed to talk while driving, then we are taking advantage of other's lives by doing so.

Actions such as talking/texting while driving is a downright obnoxious and discrediting one if you knowingly understand the accidental murders it has and will cause. On average, there are roughly 6,000,000 car accidents per year in the US. Slightly relieving, only an average of 42,000 of them results in death. This does not take away from the fact that 115 people die every day from car accidents alone. If you do the math, that would leave someone as significant to you as a parent or child unintentionally killed every 13 minutes. It's upsetting to think about isn't it? If we just acknowledged the fact that those numbers could be deliberately reduced, we should absolutely push for the banning of this pointless killer.

In the beginning of winter 2008, this sometimes absent-minded world took my little cousin, Carly, away from my family and I. She was killed by a driver who was texting on their phone and disregarded the fact that they were still driving a 3,000 pound weapon. She was 9 years old and now will never be able to show her family the successful person we all knew she'd be. And for what, the few words in text that could've waited until the driver was parked or out of their vehicle?

Just as there are laws for seat belts, there should be laws for driving while distracted. Ironically my cousin had worn one. It just doesn't make since that we have laws for wearing seatbelts but my cousin had died wearing one from an act that was legal in some states. I was always told that life wasn't going to be fair, but give me a break!

Despite all of the painful grief inside of my heart from this, I stand to believe in there being no dramatic consequence for any accidental happenings. It wasn't the individual's direct intent to harm anyone. This person probably didn't even understand the severity or statistics of this situation. If anyone is at fault, it is all the people who voted "no" on this title's question. All of the people who will continue to use their cell phone while driving, knowing that it could kill someone. The only way we can prevent this kind of accident from happening again, is to ban cell phone use while driving all together. This in turn will promote to tell society that it could kill one of their loved one's next.
