If you ask me some people are going a bit to far! Lets get real. Atheists want to see the time for prayer gone but to be honest if you ask me to do that would be to take away the right to pray from those who choose to do so. They made it to where it is not mandatory to pray. There is now a moment of silence where you can either pray or not. That, in my eyes is giving both a a fair chance at what they believe in. You can pray or you not it is your choice but it seems a certain group does not want to give up until those who choose to pray no longer have that right. Is that fair?
I think it should be left as is, not like there are any kids who could not benefit reflecting on part of their day. There is some part of the day that can always be looked back on and if a student chooses not to pray then maybe they can use the time to constructively look back on something during their day but a moment of silence to just stand and do nothing but pray, think back or clear your mind is great! I, even at 29, love to have a moment in my day where I can just have a moment of peace to clear my mind..
If a moment of silence bothers a person so much then maybe they should spend more time on trying to find out why. What is really bothering them because a moment of silence shouldn't. I know that I don't harass anybody about them not praying so why should anybody concern themselves so much with wether I take that time to pray or not? Why should any other person have the right to try to take that away? Nobody is being forced to pray so why force us not to pray? If you ask me I think it is in a fair spot right now for both sides, you can either reflect or you can pray. They don't want us making them pray so they need to give us our rights as well. Just because some don't think they need to pray doesn't mean the rest of us should loose our right to pray. We are just as important as the others so lets keep it fair!
Why can't we be adults about it? There are things in life that every person is going to disagree with so what happens if we have the states running around trying to please every person? You can smoke anymore, you can't pray anymore, you can't eat in public anymore, you can't talk to your kids in public anymore because nobody wants to hear your conversation, etc. Let's grow up and be big boys and girls and learn to live with what goes on around us... If they change it does it really change anything other than the fact that somebody didn't want their kid to have to stand still and quiet for a moment? Not really.. If the kids don't pray then they weren't likely praying to begin with so what are they really changing? Kids need to learn there are times in life when they will need to make choices, important choices without somebody standing over them telling them what choice to make, and what better time than from the beginning? A kindergarten knows wether they pray or not or wether they want to pray or not and they will do which ever it is they want. If a parent doesn't agree with their childs choice then they need to take that up with the kid. There is no difference in a kid doing something their parents don't agree with, it happens and the school isn't help responsible the parent is. So why should this be any different?
I hope somebody makes the right choice but I have to say I think it is fine the way it is. It gives both parties the choice to either pray or just reflect on the day. I think it would be unfair to take the choice to pray out and I really think it would take away a big part of our right to freedom isn't that why they made it optional to pray or not to pray? Yet now they want to take away the right to pray instead of making a oerson pray...
