When creating an online dating profile, there are many things that you should consider. The most important of all is what you are looking for and how you want to find it. Your profile is given to you to customize the way you see fit. You need only share the information you feel comfortable with. At the same time, you should remain as honest as possible so that you don't start a relationship under false pretenses.
Many dating websites have pre-made forms to fill out. You will be asked several questions and you are expected to answer them to the best of your ability. Take your time and think about each question. Dating is serious business and your dating profile should be also.
Think about what you really want in a relationship.
When giving information on a dating profile, be picky. Don't just write that it doesn't matter and move on to the next question. Think about your ideal mate. What qualities must they have? Also think about the things that turn you off. Be honest about what you want. This will help you find someone that you are truly compatible with.
Do you see age as just a number?
Many people are uncomfortable sharing their age so this information is often withheld. The problem is that an age gap can often be a problem. If you are 60 and the person you hook up with is 18, there may be large maturity differences. If this is a problem, you need to say so. Pick an age range for your ideal mate that you can both be comfortable with.
Be accurate when you describe yourself.
Be happy with who you are. Don't pretend you are someone you aren't. Maybe your hair is shorter than you would like for it to be or you are heavier than most people your age, but there is no reason to lie about it. If you can't accurately describe yourself, have a friend write a description for you. It is also good to include a recent picture. Baby photos are cute but you don't look like that anymore so you should try to give your potential mate a better idea of what you look like.
How far is too far for a relationship?
General location is an important thing to include. You don't have to give your exact street address but you should let people know where you live and how far you are willing to travel for love. If distance is a problem, you need to say so.
Share the basic facts.
Include simple statistics such as your sex, race, sexual orientation, religion and anything else that matters to you. If education, careers, or life's goals are important to you, then you should share information on your background and what you are looking for.
List things that will help you reach your desired compatibility.
It is true that opposites attract but to what extent is sometime unknown. The best relationships are those that have common bonds. Sharing your interests, talents, hobbies, and skills could help you find a mate that is better suited to you on many levels.
Don't lie about things.
There is a fine line between withholding information and telling lies. If you don't feel comfortable mentioning your kids or pets right now, then you can keep it to yourself. However, you should realize that there might come a time that those things may need to be known about. If you flat out lied to cover things up, there is a chance you may not be forgiven.
Just be who you are.
Your dating profile is your window to the dating world at large. Put your best foot forward and don't be scared to toot your own horn. Of course you have your downfalls, we all do, but don't focus on those things. Instead share with the world what a wonderful person you truly are and the date invitations will come pouring in!
