The administration of Klamath tribes is led by a general manager that is responsible for the tribal organization and a five million dollar budget. And also directing the many departments of the Klamath Council, which are used to improve independency of the tribes and the people of the tribes. Below is a list of these departments.
Klamath Tribal Health and Family Services:
Provides a variety of services. Dental, drug and alcohol abuse, contract, and mental.
Social Services:
Child protective services, Counseling, welfare, safety, Native American Family Assistance, and Family Support Center.
Community Services:
Energy and food commodities, and assistance for the disabled and elderly.
Natural Resources Department:
Wild life and natural resources protection and conservation.
Cultural Heritage Department:
Preserving tribal history through teachings and youth camps.
Education and Employment:
Adult education, adult vocational studies, 2 and 4 year college assistance programs, and direct employment assistance with finding work, relocation, accessories, and or any other equipment members need to find or sustain work.
Tribal Housing Department:
Has three different programs designed to help low income tribal members with rend and Housing assistance.
Planning Department:
Designed to assist Klamath tribes economy and helping tribal members with there businesses.
After the Klamath Tribes reinstatement in 1986, it currently contributes twenty-five million dollars to the Klamath County economy and is close to the top of the counties biggest equal-opportunity employers. The largest tourist attraction in Klamath County is The Crater Lake National Park north of Klamath Falls, Oregon and the second largest tourist attraction is the Klamath Tribes Kla-mo-ya casino on highway 97. It brings in about three hundred thousand visitors a year.
Back in 2006 on August first, the Klamath Tribes Tribal Court held its first hearing. Which was over a juvenile dependency problem. It took almost seven years and countless hours of work and research to achieve there own court system and oversee their own various judicial issues. Landlord tenant and peacemaker court are currently being set up and implemented.
The current Tribal Council of the 2007-2010 term consist of ten members. Four of which hold offices. And the are Joseph S. Kirk as Chairman, Joe D. Hobbs as Vice-Chairman, Torina Case as Secretary, and Brandi Decker as Treasurer. The rest of the Council members include Allen Foreman, William Hatcher, Perry Chocktoot Jr., Jeff C. Mitchel, Jeannie M. McNair, and Janice Miller. Every three years a new tribal government such as those named above are elected to enhance and protect tribal interest.
