At first I thought his teeth were crooked, pushed over to the left side of his mouth. Then he smiled. And I realized they are perfect. Every time I see that crooked smile, I know that I love him. I can feel it in my toes and fingers and lips and heart. He is my love.
At first I thought he may leave. He may decide that I am too much work, too full of life and death and drama that comes from a love of all things severe. Then I exploded. I unleashed all things inside, all hopes and dreams and fears and prayers. I cried without a tissue. I laughed without holding back. He smiled and held me. He asked me to be his wife.
He lets me paint my nails, even though the smell makes him dizzy. He surprises me with hot chocolate before I can even say I'm cold. He sings love songs to me when he thinks I am asleep. He holds my door and my hand everywhere we go. He is the man I hope our son will become. And when he looks at me, I know I am more beautiful that any mirror can reflect.
At first I thought he may love me. Now I know he does. He is my love. And I am his.
