on the interview or the job description and even put your key skills forward at the same time. It is also your chance to identify long-term opportunities to progress within the company.
Questions could include:
- You said in this job I would be required to be very innovative which I believe is one of my strengths. Could you give me an example when this would be required?
- What would you say would be the key challenges I'd be facing in the first half year of the job?
- The job sounds great and exactly what I am looking for in the moment. But I am also looking for a company that can give me potential to grow and develop my career further in the future. Is there the opportunity for long-term career development in your company?
* Questions about the next steps
Before leaving the interview room you should indicate that you are still interested in the job now that you have completed the hurdle of the interview (if this is the case!). This way you leave an enthusiastic impression with the interviewer.
- Before I leave I'd like to thank you for your time and say that I am still very interested in this position. When can I expect to hear from you with regards to a decision?
- Do you have any specific concerns with regards to my suitability to the position which I could possibly alleviate?
- Are there any further interviews or will you take an immediate decision?
Don't forget, these questions are your opportunity to clarify anything you need to know to make a decision if you think you are the right person for the company and job and could be happy working there. It might be the only chance you have before signing a contract if you are offered the job.
But you don't have to save all your questions until the end. If a comment the interviewer makes or a question they ask raises a question in your own mind, you should ask it straight away. Otherwise you will forget it, believe me! It also shows that you are actively listening to what is being said, able to think quickly and that you are confident enough to ask questions.
I hope these questions give you a starting point to prepare your own questions you want to ask in the interview. All that is left for me to say is: "Good luck!"
