Beating the Monday morning blues

Looking forward to Monday morning is something that seems impossible for many of us. When we don't want the weekend to end it's easy to dread going back to work on Monday morning. But is it really as bad as you think? Here are some methods to help you actually start looking forward to Monday morning, helping you to make the most of the weekend without dreading the inevitable!




1) Your Fresh Start: Monday morning is a fresh start for anyone. Since it's a new week you can forget about anything from the week before that you failed to get done. Start the day with a completely blank slate, and start the week as you mean to go on. Viewing Monday morning in this way can really help you look forward to the opportunity that lies ahead of you. It may be psychological, but it really works. Practice this method every Monday until it becomes second nature to look forward to the week ahead.




2) Sleep Well: Getting a good sleep before Monday morning is key to feeling good when you have to wake up. However, you might go to bed early on Sunday nights with good intentions, but find it difficult to get to sleep. Maintaining regular sleep patterns throughout the week will help you get the amount of sleep you need to face the new week.




3) Be Prepared: It is useful to plan on Sunday night anything that needs to be ready on Monday morning. Don't let this take over your weekend, simply make sure that a few things are ready. This might mean having your clothes washed and out, having food ready to make your lunch, or having your to-do-list ready. You don't have to get everything done just know what needs doing so you aren't rushed when you wake up.




4) Find Something Nice to do On Mondays: If you have any control over your working day then it might be a good idea to choose a few tasks you enjoy doing for Mondays. You can also take some time out to plan the rest of your working week. If you don't control your day then make sure that something fun awaits you when you get home, whether that's a relaxing bath or even a nice dinner.






As you can see, learning to love Monday mornings is a process of training yourself to look at things a little differently. Changing the way you think will take some time, but making the effort can really improve your productivity. Accept the fact that Monday may never be your favourite day of the week, but also embrace the idea that it does come with a number of benefits too!
