Graduation
Kanye West has completely exceeded all of my expectations of his talent in this CD. I grew up on rap and hip hop and I first started hearing about Kanye West through songs like "Jesus Walks" and "Gold Digger". I really did like "Jesus Walks" so I bought that CD and the same with "Gold Digger", I found him to be inspiring and charming but I still didn't necessarily like all the songs on either CD and I hate buying CDs for just one or two songs! Then at the MTV Movie Awards Kanye performed a new song, "Stronger" which is a song on this CD "Graduation". It was hot and I loved it, but then I heard on the news that Kanye was at odds with MTV over the performance. Kanye was unhappy with them because they didn't accommodate him the way he wanted or something like that. He started coming off very egotistical to me and I didn't know if I really liked him. I wondered if maybe I shouldn't buy his CDs anymore because maybe there was no depth to any of his lyrics, and maybe they were just catchy songs and again, I hate buying CDs for just one or two songs!
Some time later, after I had heard about his mother dying on the car radio one morning, I was on Myspace, and I heard the song "Stronger" again. It made me think about the relationship Kanye seem to have with his mother. I knew he was close to his mother because he always talks about her on different shows that I see him on and he has this song for her on his CD, "College Dropout", that really makes me think of my close relationship with my mother. So I wondered, could he really be so empty? So I finally bought the CD "Graduation" ....... and I love it! It is so hot! Like I said, I grew up on rap and hip hop and this is the first CD ever in my life that I have grown to pretty much LOVE every song! It is funny too, because I thought I wouldn't buy his CDs anymore because I would only like a couple of songs plus my impression of him having a huge ego made his songs seem empty to me. So when I bought this CD, I originally bought it for "Stronger" and "Good Life" but then this real slow song called "Everything I Am" hit me hard and I just can't get enough of it! It also showed me that his songs are not empty and he may be egotistical in some ways, but not all! Plus, he really is that talented in my eyes! Kanye West truly exceeded all of my expectations in this CD and I strongly recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys this genre of music!
