Planning a birthday party for your middle school child

Middle school children love a birthday party just as much as they did when they were eight. When you are in elementary school it's easy to have a party at the park, the skating rink or one of the many children places that serve cold pizza and are extremely loud. Being in middle school says, "you have to be cool", and these places are considered kiddy things. However, the older teen and preteen still want to have a fun party.

A great way to allow them to have fun and still remain cool is to have a costume party. When I say costume party, I mean any costume or celebrity you want to dress up as. They can come as movie characters, a real movie star that they admire, a superhero or an animal. It's whatever they like that they feel is going to still keep them cool and will be fun. The invitation to this party is crucial. It will have to be interesting and full of fun concepts that will make them excited and eager for the fun to begin.

If the invite is first colorful and bold this will get your guest attention. Then you begin to explain in a light funny way all about the party of the year. This invite will talk about the costumes and a cash prize for the best costume of the night. This will excite the children and get their minds going on the best costume to wear. Having the D.J. that all the children love is the next thing to highlight on the invite. This will let them know that dancing will be great. Lastly, speak about some of the food that will be served. At this age, pizza, hotdogs, chips and soda's really appeal to them.

The decorations for this costume party need to be bright and vibrant. You will want to have spotlights, shimmering material on the walls, disco balls, and balloons in the corners of the room so as to not be in the way of the festivities. The food area needs to be out of the way also and have plenty of room for the children to hang around and eat. You need to make sure that the food helpers keep the food area fully stocked so the children don't have to wait for you to prepare more. This will keep this area flowing nicely.

Now when your guest begin to arrive they will see a red carpet with the ropes and several adults with microphones posing as reporters and excitedly asking probing questions. Also have several adults with camera's taking pictures which will be great for memories afterwards. Finally have an announcer at the door ask who they are portraying and then announce them as the enter the room. Now you have the fixings for a great middle school party that will surely be the talk of the school for months to come. Also, the other parents will love having to top the great party you have planned.
