There was a time not long ago
When candy hearts and flowers
And words said just so
Proved that love was ours.
There was a time not long ago
When red silk spoke
And diamonds woke
My love both high and low.
But later came the test
Of for better and for worse
No cash for gifts; no time for rest
No time at all for lover's verse.
But your hand was there for me
In your eyes, I could always see
That love stays steady without reward
Without the gifts we can't afford.
I thank you for believing that
Jewels are just a background mat
For a frame of love that's here to stay.
Today, I'd simply like to say
Thanks for loving me on Valentine's Day.

Candy hearts and flowers,
Just can't tell you how I feel
Today is very special,
and my love for you is real.
