How to build a hot-tub platform
There will be as many ways to build a hot-tub platform as there are different hot-tubs and the different folks who use them. However, the most important way to build a hot-tub area is the way to build one perfect for you. To create your perfect hot-tub platform, first envision the overall effect you wish to achieve. Write out the details of your vision so they won't be lost while planning the construction details.
While designing a hot-tub platform, there are a variety of considerations to ponder while imagining what is necessary for your perfect hot-tub experience. A starting point might be to add some steps for ease of entering and exiting the tub as well as a seating area nearby for use while cooling down between soakings or after hot-tubbing. It is always nice to have a small table area or a wide rim around the tub to set drinks and snacks on while hot-tubbing. A candle, statue or flower niche is nice to create something to view while bathing. A waterfall can be something to view as well as create soothing sounds. A TV or sound system is a good addition to a hot-tub area.
A more prosaic design consideration is a floor drain to make up for moments of excessive exuberance while hot-tubbing, although drains aren't always in most folks' initial visions for the hot-tub experiences they would like to create.
For an exterior hot-tub some of the major design considerations are whether you envision the hot-tub platform to be a secluded garden nook or as part of an entertainment area such as a back yard barbecue area.
For the garden nook hot-tub platform many folks like to incorporate design items such as raised koi ponds which have a glass panel facing the hot-tub, waterfalls or fountains for something to view while hot-tubbing. Garden hot-tub platforms also team up well with vine covered trellises or arbors to screen the hot-tub. A pergola is a lovely addition to the garden hot-tub platform to create a strong visual sense of place for the garden hot-tub. Frequently garden hot-tub platforms are made of stone or wood which blend well with the garden environment. Stone
can be used to create a natural pool effect for the garden nook hot-tub. At least, until the lights and Jacuzzi jets are turned on!
The pergola can also be used for the entertainment area hot-tub platform since it creates a strong visual outdoor "room". For the hot-tub party platform, it is nice to incorporate entertainment elements such as a fire pit or barbecue grill.
