A guide to popular cat breeds

Sometimes it pays to have a cat of a specific breed rather than a cross between two or more different ones. Different species of cats will have different temperaments and the one that you choose will depend very much on the kind of lifestyle you wish to have your cat living in. Some breeds may not be suitable for younger children for example while others thrive in a family atmosphere.

There are a number of popular cat breeds that you may wish to consider for your choice of pet but among one of the favorites is the Siamese cat. These wonderfully slender cats are perfect for those that are looking for a rather talkative addition to their family. These Siamese cats have rather loud voices and will tell you when they want something, no matter what time of day or night it is. This breed of cat is also a very loving cat that craves attention and will quite literally follow you around the home until you pick them up or pet them.

One of the drawbacks to Siamese cats is that they can be rather possessive. One thing that I have noticed with my Siamese cat is that when me and my partner are cuddling, my cat has to jump in and get a piece of the action and he gets rather stroppy if he does not get the affection he thinks he deserves. You will also find that the Siamese breed of cat is a rather expensive one but is a definite investment, especially if you are thinking of breeding him or her.

Another of the more exotic cats that are a popular breed is that of the Bengal cat. These are descendants of wild cats and can therefore be rather vicious in nature but all in all are generally loving cats that are just as happy sat on the owners lap purring as it is out and about hunting for small creatures. Another talkative breed like the Siamese one, the Bengal cat has a rather piercing meow that will certainly let the owner know when they are wanting food or anything else. Again a full pedigree will require a rather costly fee but like the Siamese, is a great investment as well as a bubbly addition to any household.

The Persian cat is another breed of cat that is well sought after and for so many reasons. They have rather long coats that can grow up to around three inches in length which means a certain amount of maintenance. Despite this, they are very attractive cats with great personalities and would prove to be a great addition to any home.

There are so many popular breeds of cat that people are lusting after in today's society and aside from the ones already mentioned you will find breed names such as Rag Doll, Maine Coon and Burmese. Each and every breed of cat will bring with it their own characteristics and while some are affectionate, others may be distant and it is this that you should think about when inviting a new pet into your home.
