Having three children of my own, I have experienced more than my fair share of diaper rash. From the type that is mildly red, to the sort that requires a doctor to intervene with antibiotics. There are so many brands of creams, jellies, pastes, and everything in between that it almost feels overwhelming. I have tried them all. Some to no avail, and some with great relief.
My first son could hardly bear being wet. The slightest irritation brought out the most raw, red and itchy looking rash. I tried everything. I even let the doctor convince me to use a steroid antibiotic rash ointment. Even this made minor improvement for his little bum. Finally, it was suggested to me to try Bordeaux Butt Paste. Funny name, miracle product! This tube of slightly oatmeal consistency not only cleared the rash he had, but actually seemed to prevent any future rashes from raising their ugly red sores. As long as I was consistent with my usage at every diaper change, he was rash free. It was a miracle cream. Nothing came close. At least not for him.
That brings me to my second son. He was not as prone to rashes as his older brother, but he was a... for lack of a better word, grabber. The second the diaper came off, down his hands flew. He tugged and pulled and irritated the daylights out of his nether region. I have never seen a baby like him! He would end up giving himself cuts that would get irritated by the soiled diaper. I tried the butt paste for him, but it was not as affective as it had been previously for my older son. After trial and error, I found that Desitin Original worked the best for him. It protected his skin and also healed. Plus, as an added bonus, Desitin is a magnificent sun block. One hundred percent sun blocking power! Spread it on you little ones nose, ears, shoulders, whatever, and poof! no sunburn. Tried and true method.
My third son is still in diapers and not been as cursed by the rash demon as his older brothers. He gets the occasional rash when sick or teething, but other than that, he has been pretty clear. When one does spring up, I have used my two tried and true methods and both have been effective. I also gave Desitin Creamy a try as well as the A and D Creamy. Neither much to my liking. To me, they seem to rub off way too easily. Much sooner than my other two favorites. They just do not seem as good of a product and actually are a little more pricey. I will be sticking with my instinct and the ones that have proven to work for me.
