Songs: Frozen

by Cynthia Wall

Created on: February 14, 2009

Snow light breaks the dawn

And casts a glow on frozen lawn.

Huddled by our cheery fire,

We spot a doe and half-grown fawn

Dash by the fence and then they're gone.

The quiet of ice surrounds us all

We listen in vain for a morning bird call.

Nature has wrapped us in a cloak of white

Brighter than sunshine or bright moonlight.

Snow light breaks the dawn

And we must go out to greet it.

Wood must be carried to keep the fire lit.

Animals must be fed and neighbors called

Grain in the barn and water hauled.

No school today; the children will play,

But you and I will heat the day

With work and love and promises kept

That brought us here and continue to stay.

Snow light breaks the dawn

But its frozen silence warms us through

The good and bad; the old and new

Love is the answer to all that's cold

The fire that will heat us when we're old.

Snow light breaks the dawn of day

And guides us warmly on our way.
