I would suggest that there are three principal reasons why people start and maintain a blog or series of blogs. Either they simply enjoy they art of blogging, they are trying to use the blog in order to promote something else such as a business or a website, or that they are principally interested in making money from the procedure. It is entirely possible that all three apply and this may make the most successful combination for a quality and profitable blog!
Getting paid simply to perform the act of blogging is not a very common occurrence. The payment is usually in residual form, from such as Google AdSense or affiliate sales. This, however, largely depends upon what we actually class as a blog, as I have come across many definitions of same and many sites which some call a blogging site and others wholly disagree. It is not impossible to find such opportunities, however, as long as we are aware that the vast majority of them will be scams.
One site which I have found that does pay us simply for the act of writing blog posts is Today.com. When we sign up to this site and create our blog, we are for the first thirty days eligible to receive a $1.00 payment per one hundred word plus post per day. This is dependant upon our post being of quality and relevant to our blog as all posts are moderated. After this time, the quality of our blog overall is assessed and our payment rate either increased or decreased accordingly. Today.com also has a remuneration rate dependant upon the number of unique visits we get to our blog.
We may of course choose to tender our blogging services to online agencies or individuals who are looking for quality writers to post to blogs. As mentioned further up this page, however, there at least ten scammers in this respect for every genuine one so please be careful regarding what you commit to and how much of your precious time you devote prior to seeing the blogger or agency's cash.
It could of course be argued quite stringently that earning such as commissions from affiliate sales and Google AdSense pay per click revenue means that we are essentially being paid to blog in this respect as well. I will let you make that determination for yourself.
I hope that you have found this article useful in determining how any of us may go about getting paid to blog and that it will help you to put the theory in to successful and lucrative practise.
