The Klamath Cruise is actually the Kruise of Klamath. This classic car show has been an annual event in Klamath Falls, Oregon, for many years. Open to custom and stock vehicles, vintage 1973 or earlier, this three day event provides fun, prizes, and activities for participants and spectators.
HISTORY
Over 25 years ago the owner of the local A&W started an event which he envisioned would bring some outside dollars into the area. Thus "The Klamath Kruise" was born. The event grew more vigorously than expected. Eventually it evolved into a community' event controlled by a non-profit organization and owned by the community.
While the popular event drew crowds to this small southern Oregon town, the Klamath Kruise nearly met its demise when board members decided the event had outgrown their energy level. Fortunately for Kruise participants, spectators, and the city of Klamath Falls, many enjoyed the event too much to let it die. Thus, in 2005, the Kruise of Klamath was born.
Attracting over 300 participants and more than 40 thousand spectators, this classic car show has become an increasingly important source of tourist revenue for Klamath Falls.
VEHICLES
The Kruise of Klamath is a three day event, Friday through Sunday, open to up to 500 entries. In July every year the streets of Klamath Falls take a step back in time as classic cars converge upon the town.
Participants come from across the Northwest - Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, and Montana - to compete in the classes, participate in the events, and enjoy the entertainment.
The Kruise of Klamath offers 37 special classes from Best of Show to Best of Paint. Both stock and modified vehicles manufactured prior to 1973 are welcome to participate. In fact, this year the organizers are considering adding a new class for classic' cars from 1974 to present.
Perhaps the oldest (and most customized) vehicle to participate in the Kruise of Klamath is the "T-Bucket". These uniquely rebuilt roadsters or roadster pickups are a popular classic'. These roadsters also often represent the oldest vehicle in the show. In 2006, for example, Brian Curtis' 1926 black and blue "T-Bucket" took this honor.
EVENTS
Like most classic car shows, the Kruise of Klamath is much more than a contest. This event-packed three day weekend is held at the Klamath County Youth Sports Complex, but it by no means remains there. Nor are the events limited to car show participants. This is a community event, and the community enjoys
