It is Friday night and the evening news comes on. The weather man says the forecast shows rain for the whole weekend. The first thing that you think of is, what are my children going to do all weekend?
Not to worry, there are many indoor rainy-day activities for children to do no matter what there age or capabilities are, best of all you probably have tons of things around your home that can keep your children occupied all day long.
CRAFTS:
Bring out the paper, scissors, crayons, paint, glitter, stickers, and glue. Let the children make what ever they feel up to. If a holiday is near perhaps they would like to make decorations for your home.
Use there creations to make a little art gallery displaying everything they have made.
Bring out coloring books, or look on-line for printable coloring pages.
GAMES:
The Playstation, Wii, XBox, etc. are all fun to play and children enjoy playing them. They all offer several fun and educational games that are appropriate for what ever age your child is. If you are not a fan of letting your child play video games then you can opt for more traditional board games.
Monopoly, checkers, and go fish were all made for rainy days. These games take time to play which will help keep children occupied. If you do not have any board games on hand you can encourage your children to play hand written games like tick-tac-toe or hang man, they are equally entertaining and won't cost you a thing.
Make up your own games, or try things like scavanger hunts. Simply make a list of things you have around your home and send your children off to find them. You could also use this to secreatly get them to pick up their own things, such as 1 pair of pants, 4 socks, etc. Reward them with a simple treat like a cookie when they complete there hunt.
COOKING:
Children's cook books are a great investment, as most are filled with simple recipes that require common ingredients. If you do not have one you can look on-line for simple children's recipes that include ingredients that you already have.
Try baking some cookies or cup cakes and let the children decorate them, you can enjoy the fruit's of there labor too.
Make believe:
Children love to play house. Let them set up some chairs and cover them with a large sheet. They will have a big tent/fort that they can even camp out in for the night, if they like.
In the end indoor rainy-day activities are only limited by your imaginations, so get creative and get active inside.
