In my mind there is no better show on television right now than "The Office." Early on there were some complaints that it would just be a bad version of the British "The Office," but I think that anyone that has stuck it out and watched the American version consistently does not think that anymore.
With brilliant writing, great acting, and an engaging storyline not typically seen in sitcoms, The Office is very entertaining, funny, and at times emotional. My favorite parts of the shows are the "talking heads," where they film a shot with just one actor, as the sitcom is shot in documentary style.
The boss in the office is Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell. He often has no self-awareness about what's doing or if he is doing someting wrong or offensive, but he means well and really wants the best for everyone in the office. Early on he was a little over the top, but has cooled that down to become possibly the best character in the show, and he is extremely funny and probably the best actor in the show.
The other "main" characters are Jim Halpert, Dwight Schrute, and Pam Beesley. Jim is sort of the "everyman" that people can relate to. Pam is the receptionist that gets along with everyone well, and Dwight is the "Assistant Regional Manager" that takes his job very seriously.
But the strength of the show lies in the supporting characters. There's Angela, the uptight Accountant who is secretly dating Dwight. There's Meredith, who's [halfheartedly] fighting Alcoholism. There's Ryan, the former temp who has taken a full-time position. There's Stanley, who doesn't really like his job but it pays the bills. There's Toby, who inexplicably is hated by Michael. Then there's Creed, who, no one really knows anything about him, but he is perhaps the most hilarious character on the show. Then there is Andy, the brownnosing assistant, Oscar, the gay Mexican, and Karen, who is kinda dating Jim.
So all in all, it's a great show with an engaging storyline to go along with the brilliant and subtle humor. To close I'll just give some of my favorite quotes from the show, I'll put a lot, but they're funny:
Creed: I'm not offended by homosexuality. In the 60's I made love to many, many women - often outdoors, in the mud and the rain...and it's possible a man slipped in. [shrugs] There'd be no way of knowing.
Michael: Abraham Lincoln once said that "If you are a racist, I will attack you with the North," and those are the principles I carry with me in the workplace.
Ryan: [reads Todd Packer's
