One of the most unforgettable romantic gestures throughout history has been the act of serenading one's beloved. In song, we find a heightened sense of expression that clearly communicates our feelings. For this reason, when we sing, it requires of us a certain emotional vulnerability, which allows others to perceive our sincerity. On Valentine's Day, the songs you sing to your loved one may be the greatest gifts of all. The only thing left for you to decide is which songs can truly reveal the depth of your admiration.
After many years of serenading others as a vocalist, my experiences have shown that these following songs, both lyrically and musically rich, are among the top causes of swooning:
1. "(God Must Have Spent) a Little More Time on You", as performed by N'SYNC, explores the wonder of discovering unparalleled inner beauty. "Your soul is like a secret that I never could keep" is just one of the deeply flattering comparisons made here.
2. Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" mixes a seductive groove with confessions of everlasting love, making it clear that you'll be there through the sunshine as well as the rain.
3. Stevie Wonder's "Overjoyed" expresses the incredible joy of discovering love after a seemingly endless journey.
4. Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love" probably doesn't need much explanation. It's a classic love ballad, and few women can resist Elvis.
5. "I Love the Way You Love Me", by John Michael Montgomery, is a country song that highlights all the little things you can love about someone.
6. K-Ci and Jojo's "All My Life" was notorious for bringing couples together for a slow dance and remains one of the most passionate love songs.
7. The spicy acoustic guitars and castanets in Brian Adams "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman" are unmistakably romantic, and when you sing of what it means to really love a woman, the one you're singing to will know you really do.
8. Peter Cetera's "Glory of Love" exudes a chivalrous sort of romance. It would be hard to go wrong with this one.
9. "How Deep is Your Love", by the Bee Gees, is not only one of the most beautiful love songs, but it also can work well when sung acapella.
10. Mariah Carey's "Music Box", for our female singers, is loaded with sweetness and would make any man's knees wobble.
11. Also recommended for our female singers is Celene Dion's "The Power of Love", a dreamy, powerful ballad that can be remarkably enchanting.
If you need somewhere to practice without spoiling the surprise, consider taking some friends out for a night of karaoke, and make use of every spare moment you have alone while driving! Whether you're an amazing singer or not, making the effort to serenade your special one on Valentine's Day is something that you both can cherish for years to come.
