Rolling over to look at the clock, Alexis groaned and hit snooze on the alarm. In the two years since her divorce, Valentine's Day was the hardest. It just had a way of doing that when you were not in a relationship, and the memories of the five Valentine's she and her husband had spent together always came flooding back. Not that she was absolutely alone, but Alexis wasn't sure of the status of her current relationship, if you could even call it that. Christopher hadn't even called in a week, but Alexis didn't want to push too hard with their history.
Alexis had met Christopher right before Valentine's Day almost 7 years ago. She was 17 and he was 20. The fact that he was older added to the appeal because she felt more grown up. Their first date was actually on Valentine's Day and Alexis had fallen head over hills in love with this beautiful creature with blond hair and blue eyes. Six months later he had left her heartbroken, but Alexis had never fully gotten over him. Throughout the 5 years she was married she would see him around town and it was amazing how her first love could stop her heart. About a year and a half after her divorce they had met at a party and had been an off and on thing again for about six months now. Alexis just wanted to take things slow because she was afraid of scaring him off again. That is why she had absolutely refused to call him even though he hadn't called in a week.
Shaking her head to clear the old memories, Alexis got up out of bed. She stepped into the bathroom and turned the shower on to heat up while she walked down the hall. Pushing open the door, she looked in on the other reason she was afraid to take a leap where Christopher was concerned. Walking over to the bed she smoothed her daughter's hair back.
"Time to wake up Victoria!" Alexis whispered into her daughter's ear, and felt her roll over.
"Are you still coming to my Valentine's Day party at school today Mom?" asked Victoria with eyes wide open now.
"You know I wouldn't let you down sweetheart, now get up and get ready while Mommy takes a shower. Then make sure to pack your overnight bag for Grandma's house tonight!"
Alexis smiled at her grumbling daughter and ran to jump in the shower. She let the water run down her body as she thought about the day ahead. From 8-5 she was working at the Accountants office she had been at since right before the divorce, and then she was covering a shift for a friend at her part time job....waiting tables at AppleBees. it was going
